What are shortfill e-liquids?

This is your guide on shortfill e-liquid, the benefits, and how to use them.

What are shortfill e-liquids?

If you’re new to the awesome world of shortfill e-liquids, let us bring you up to speed.

Basically, since 2017, the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) has limited the sale of nicotine containing e-liquids to 10ml bottles. Though we love our 10mls, they aren’t the most cost-effective or environmentally-friendly way to enjoy vaping.

Shortfill e-liquids, on the other hand, can be sold in much larger sizes (generally 60ml-120ml) because they are supplied nicotine-free. When you receive your shortfill, you’ll find a space left in the top for you to add the nicotine shots included in your order (hence the name ‘shortfill’). Once the nic shots are in, simply shake it up for 60 secs and it’s ready to vape, otherwise known as ‘shake and vape’.

What is the VG/PG ratio?

When you buy an e-liquid, it will specify the propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG) ratio. Higher PG juices are more flavoursome, while a higher VG content gives more vapour.

A 50%VG:50%PG ratio is a standard mix, but many vapers prefer higher VG juices at 70%VG:30%PG for the greater cloud production. All our shortfill e-liquids are 70%VG:30%PG.

What strength of nicotine should I choose?

Whether you prefer shortfill or 10ml e-liquids, you will have to choose the strength of nicotine to suit you. Here’s a general rule of thumb:

  • 0mg – No nicotine at all
  • 3mg – The most popular choice for vapers
  • 6mg – Full flavour e liquid with a higher nicotine percentage
  • 12mg – The mid-range for ex casual smokers
  • 18mg – Very high for those who were a heavy smoker

10mls will be pre-mixed with nicotine but you add your own nic shots to shortfill e-liquids. Adding nic shots into shortfills won’t dilute the flavour though as the juice will be supplied at the correct concentration to match the amount of nicotine to be added. The more nic shots to be added, the higher the concentration of the e-liquid.

Watch our quick video tutorial where we show you how to mix a nicotine shot into e-liquid. In this video, we will mix one 10ml 18mg/ml nicotine shot into a 50ml shortfill e-liquid to create a perfect 60ml of 3mg nicotine vape juice.

That’s everything you need to know!
