Replacement Vape Coils & Pods
At the heart of every good vape kit lies a high-quality vape coil or pod cartridge. This is where the magic happens, transforming your e-liquid into deliciously satisfying clouds of rich vapour. We have an extensive range of spare pods and coils from big-name brands like Vaporesso, Oxva, and SMOK, so you can keep enjoying your flavours at their finest.
We have a range of high-resistance, plus-ohm coils for irresistibly smooth mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping alongside low-resistance, sub-ohm coils for an intensely satisfying direct-to-lung (DTL) experience. No matter your vaping style, we’ve got something for you!
What Is a Vape Coil?
It’s hard to understate the importance of your coil. This heating element is where your vape device transforms your vape juice into delicious vapour!
The coil slots into your vape’s e-liquid tank and is made up of two essential components: the wick and the coil wire.
Once you pour liquid into your tank, it is soaked up by the wicking material of your coil. This is the process of priming your coil. You should allow the wick around five minutes to properly soak up the e-liquid before use, letting you avoid a dry hit.
Once you hit your firing button – or inhale-activate your kit – your coil wire will begin to heat up, vapourising the e-liquid in the wick. Once you finish drawing, you’ll be able to enjoy a hit of mouth-watering vapour!
What Is a Vape Pod?
Vape pods are super-convenient, all-in-one atomiser heads designed for use with pod devices.
They operate just like coils, but the way you use them is a little different.
Pod cartridges, sometimes called fixed-coil pods, are made of three components. They include a tank alongside a wick and a coil wire.
Unlike traditional coils, where you take them in and out of your tank, or replace individual components, pods allow you to simply remove the entire atomiser head at once and replace it with a brand-new cartridge.
Pods are designed for maximum convenience. Just push one into your device, fill it up with vape juice, and enjoy!
When Should I Replace My Vape Coils and Pods?
Coils and pods alike both wear out over time. This is generally a result of the coil wire heating and reheating, degrading the wicking material after extended use.
This is perfectly normal and a natural part of vape maintenance. All you’ll need to do is occasionally use a replacement pod or spare coil to keep everything running smoothly.
You can tell when you need to change by observing the look, smell, and taste of your coil/pod.
Most coils and pods allow you to see the wicking material. A fresh wick is typically white. When the wick burns, it will turn brown or black, letting you know it’s time for a switch.
If the coil produces a singeing smell when used, it’s typically a sign that the wattage is too high. Try turning the wattage down. If the smell persists, your wick is burnt, and you should replace it.
The biggest giveaway is the taste. If your vape has started to taste funny when you take a hit, that is a sure sign that the pod/coil is burnt and needs to be changed.
How Long Do Coils and Pods Last?
There’s no set lifespan for any coil or pod cartridge. How long they might last depends on a few factors, such as the resistance, wattage, usage, and even the e-liquid you use. Some coils and pods could last a few days, while others might last weeks on end.
Generally speaking, we expect plus-ohm (higher-resistance) pods and coils to last for around three weeks with moderate use. Sub-ohm (low-resistance) pods and coils may burn out quicker, lasting around a week.
That’s not always the case, though! You can massively extend your coil/pod’s lifespan by using your device at a lower wattage. This means your coil wire does not reach the same high temperatures, helping to slow the burning of the wick greatly.
What Are Coil/Pod Resistances and Ohms?
Every coil and pod has a different resistance. The resistance is how much the coil wire resists the electrical charge sent from the battery.
Some coil wires have a high resistance, while others have a low resistance. Electricity doesn’t flow as easily through a high-resistance coil wire, so they heat up less. Low-resistance coils allow electricity to flow freely, letting them heat up more.
Resistance is measured in ‘ohms’ (Ω). This is why you will see coils and pods listed as 1.2Ω and 0.6Ω.
Higher-resistance coils have a resistance of around 0.8Ω and above. They are better suited to mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping, which is preferred by most ex-smokers.
Lower-resistance coils range from around 0.1-0.6Ωs. They are best for direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping, which is preferred by some experienced vapers.
Any coil wire with a resistance of 1.0Ω or more is considered ‘plus-ohm’. Coil wires with a resistance lower than 1.0Ω are considered ‘sub-ohm’.
Devices are only compatible with certain resistances, so be sure to double-check compatibility before making a purchase!
Which Replacement Coil or Pod Is Right for My Vape?
Different devices are made to be used with different coils or pods, so you will need a certain kind. This depends on the brand or tank you’re using.
For example, you cannot use a DA ONE pod if you need a UWell coil.
Getting the brand right isn’t all you’ll need to do, either. Each manufacturer has a wide range of devices, so they each have different pods and coils on offer.
The best way to find which coil/pod you’ll need is to check your vape kit’s product description. If you’re still unsure, speak to a member of our team, and we’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.
