Why is My Vape Leaking? 6 Possible Reasons

Is your e-cig creating an oily, sticky mess in your pocket or bag? Then you might well be wondering, why is my vape leaking?

Let’s face it, when it comes to e-cigarettes, few things are more frustrating than a leaky vape. Not only is it a pain having to clean up the mess, but it’s also pretty tragic watching so much of your precious e-liquid go to waste!

So if you’re unsure why your vape’s leaking and you’d like to resolve the issue pronto, here are 6 possible explanations, as well as how to remedy them.

why is my vape lekaing?

 Why Does My Vape Leak?

If vape juice is coming out of your device then the bad news is there are quite a few possible reasons for it. But don’t despair just yet, as the good news is it should be pretty easy to diagnose and fix the issue.

So why is your vape leaking? Let’s look at the 6 most common reasons why your device is allowing liquid to escape and see if we can fix that leaky unit!

why is my vape lekaing? -- overfilling

Overfilling

When trying to pinpoint exactly why your vape is leaking, there’s no better place to start than with overfilling. That’s because by far the most common cause of a leaking vape device is the user putting too much vape liquid into their tank.

When you fill the tank up too much, the coil becomes flooded which then forces e-liquid out through the mouthpiece. An overfilled tank can also cause vape juice to breach the device’s seals.

Tip: Most tanks have a recommended fill line to help you avoid overfilling, so if you’re exceeding that then this could well be the reason your vape is leaking.

why is my vape lekaing? -- damaged vape tank

Damaged Vape Tank

This one might seem obvious, but you’d be amazed at how many people have a damaged tank and don’t realise, then wonder why there’s e-liquid leaking everywhere!

If you’re looking for the best no leaks tank on the market, then we would recommend the UWELL Crown 4 Tank – highly powerful and optimal flavour.

Tip: Give your tank a quick once over to see whether there are any cracks in the glass or plastic. If you spot any damage then replace the tank immediately.

why is my vape leaking? -- using wrong type

Using Wrong Type of E-Liquid

Another thing that may be causing your vape to leak is if you’re using the wrong type of liquid for your device. Those who are new to vaping might not be aware of this, but some liquids are better-suited to specific devices.

If you’re using a sub-ohm device then ideally you should be using a 70/30 VG:PG liquid. The reason for this is the more viscous consistency works better with the thinner coils. If you make the mistake of vaping a 50/50 e-juice with your sub-ohm kit then the thinner liquid could well escape and start to leak.

Likewise, if you’re using a plus-ohm device with thicker coils then using a liquid that’s too thick, such as a 70/30 VG:PG, will cause a build-up, which can result in leakage.

For 70/30 vape juice, we recommend treating your senses to our best-selling Blue Raspberry E-Liquid. If you’re searching for 50/50 vape liquid, we recommend the new line of Ferocious Bar Juice.

Tip: For plus-ohm devices stick to 50/50 e-liquid, while sub-ohm kits should be paired with something thicker like a 70/30 vape juice. If you’re unsure then get in touch and we’d be happy to advise you on which juice to buy for your device.

why is my vape leaking? wrong coils

Using Wrong Coils

Similar to using the wrong e-liquid, if you don’t have the correct type of coils in your device then it could quite easily start to leak.

Coils come in a variety of resistances and they’re designed to be used in specific devices. If you’ve purchased some thicker, plus-ohm coils, for instance, then these should be used in the right type of e-cig, otherwise there’s a risk the liquid won’t vaporise properly. Once this excess liquid builds up, it can start to leak from the air holes or drip tip.

For the highest performance, optimal flavour, and longevity, we recommend the mesh HorizonTech Falcon 2 Coils.

Tip: Make sure the coils you’re using are suitable for your device. If not then replace them immediately and hopefully your vape will no longer leak. If you’re unsure which coils to use then send us an email or give us a call and we’d be happy to tell you.

why is my vape leaking? loose seals

Broken/Loose Seals

If you’ve purchased one of the many vape kits on the market then you probably received some spare rubber seals. Well, it turns out there’s a reason for that as over time they can become worn out and if they’re not replaced then before you know it there’s e-liquid leaking out all over the show!

Tip: If your device is leaking then check to see whether the rubber seals are still intact. If not then you’ve found the source of your woes so simply replace the seals and you can finally say goodbye to those messy clean-up jobs!

why is my vape leaking?

You’re Vaping at Wrong Wattage

Are you using a device with variable wattage? If so, then keep in mind it should always be set to the optimal power range, otherwise you may encounter a number of issues.

For example, if you’re vaping with the wattage too low then there might not be enough power to vaporise the liquid. If this happens, you’ll be forced to pull too hard on the device which can lead to the liquid being pushed out of the tank

Tip: On your atomiser you should see an optimal power range. Try to set the wattage in the middle of this range, so if it says between 20w-40w then set it to 30w.

So those are the 6 most common causes for a leaky vape. If you came here because you were wondering “why is my vape leaking?” then hopefully you’re now armed with all the info you need to fix the issue.
